Chill and prepare
Ensure the carbonated water is well chilled. If using granulated sugar, dissolve it into the fresh lemon and lime juices (if using) by stirring until mostly dissolved to avoid grit.

Assemble the drink
Fill a 12 oz (approx. 355 ml) serving glass with the ice cubes. Add the lemon-lime syrup (15 ml) to the glass. If you prepared the sugar + citrus mix, add that in now (approximately 4 ml combined).

Add carbonated water
Slowly pour the chilled carbonated water (355 ml) into the glass over the back of a spoon or down the side to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming. Stir gently once with a bar spoon to incorporate syrup without losing too much fizz.
