Method

Cocktail Base

1

Measure and combine

Chill a coupe or martini glass by filling it with ice and water while you prepare the cocktail. In a mixing glass or shaker without ice, pour 2 oz London dry gin, 1 oz sweet vermouth, and 1 oz brown creme de cacao.

2

Stir with ice

Discard the ice and water from the chilled glass. Add a generous scoop of ice to the mixing glass (about 1 cup). Stir the ingredients gently but thoroughly for 30–45 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted (the mixing glass should feel very cold to the touch). Stirring preserves clarity and texture for this spirit-forward cocktail.

3

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled mixture into the pre-chilled coupe or martini glass, leaving any small bits of melted ice behind in the mixing glass.

Garnish & Finish

4

Express the oils of one orange twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding the twist skin-side down about 2–3 inches above the drink and giving it a quick squeeze. Run the twist around the rim of the glass and drop it into the drink as garnish.

5

Serve immediately. The Jordan is a classic, slightly chocolatey, aromatic gin and vermouth cocktail best enjoyed cold and neat.
