Method
Preparation
- 1
Rim (optional)
If you want a subtle smoky-salty accent, lightly wet the outer edge of a chilled coupe or rocks glass with a lime wedge, then dip the rim into smoked salt or flaked sea salt. Set the glass aside in the freezer or at room temperature to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
- 2
Dry shake (if using egg white)
Add the vodka, mezcal, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, green chartreuse, and egg white (if using) to a cocktail shaker without ice. Seal and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds to emulsify and build a silky foam.
- 3
Wet shake
Open the shaker and add a generous handful of ice (about 1 cup). Seal and shake hard for another 12–18 seconds until the shaker is well chilled and the exterior becomes frosty.
- 4
Double strain & serve
Double-strain the cocktail into your prepared chilled glass (use a fine mesh strainer in addition to the shaker strainer if you used egg white). This removes small ice shards and yields a smooth texture.
- 5
Bitters finish
Float 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on the foam/top. If you used egg white, you can place the drops on the foam and gently drag a toothpick through them to make a simple design, or leave them as is for aromatics.
- 6
Garnish
Garnish with a lime wheel or a finely twisted lime peel expressed over the drink to release oils, then drop it in or place it on the rim. Serve immediately.
