If using fig syrup substitute
If you don't have fig liqueur, make a quick fig syrup by simmering chopped fresh or dried figs with equal parts sugar and water (use small batch), cool and strain. To approximate sweetness and body, mix 0.5 oz fig syrup with 0.25 oz brandy to equal 0.75 oz fig liqueur.
Build and Shake
- 3
Add 2 oz reposado tequila, 0.75 oz fig liqueur (or fig syrup + brandy substitute), 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz ginger liqueur (or ginger syrup), 0.5 oz honey syrup and 2 dashes Angostura bitters into a cocktail shaker.
- 4
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup) until nearly full. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds until the outside of the shaker is chilled and slightly frosty.
Strain and Serve
- 5
Double strain the mixture into a chilled coupe or rocks glass over fresh ice (if serving on the rocks) using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer to remove small ice shards and any fig pulp.
- 6
Garnish with a fresh fig slice and a lime wheel on the rim. Lightly dust the fig slice with a trace of edible copper or gold dust if using, for a metallic 'copper' sheen. Optionally express a lime peel over the drink and drop it in.
- 7
Serve immediately. Sip and enjoy the layered notes of fig, ginger, honey and warm tequila balanced with bright lime and bitters.
