Baked Mac & Cheese Ingredients
Method
Baked Mac & Cheese Directions
Cook the Pasta
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the cavatappi pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Make the Cheese Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper, cooking for about 1-2 minutes until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the milk, cooking until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the smoked gouda until melted.
Combine Pasta and Sauce
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked cavatappi pasta and cheese sauce. Add the crumbled bacon and mix well.
Prepare for Baking
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the mac and cheese mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
Add Topping
Sprinkle the herb breadcrumbs over the top of the mac and cheese.
Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy.
Serve
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with grilled bread on the side.
