Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Bread

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Cut the stale bread into 1-inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.

2

Mix the Wet Ingredients

In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until well combined.

Assembly

3

Combine Ingredients

Pour the wet mixture over the cubed bread. Gently stir until all the bread is coated. If using, fold in raisins, chopped nuts, or chocolate chips at this point.

4

Transfer to Baking Dish

Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter or non-stick spray. Transfer the bread mixture into the dish, spreading it evenly.

Baking

5

Bake the Bread Pudding

Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the pudding is set and the top is golden brown. A toothpick inserted in the center should come out clean.

6

Cool and Serve

Remove from the oven and let cool for about 10 minutes before serving. Serve warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce.
