Method
Preparing the Dough
Activate Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water (1.5 cups) and sugar (2 tbs). Sprinkle the active dry yeast (2 tsp) on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
Mix Dry Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour (4 cups) and salt (1 tsp). Make a well in the center.
Combine Ingredients
Once the yeast mixture is foamy, pour it into the well of the dry ingredients along with olive oil (2 tbs). Mix until a dough starts to form.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Assembling the Pizza
Preheat Oven
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat as well.
Shape the Dough
Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to your desired thickness (about 1/4 inch thick).
Add Sauce
Transfer the shaped dough to a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread tomato sauce (1 cup) evenly over the surface.
Add Toppings
Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese (2 cups) over the sauce. Then add sliced pepperoni (1 cup), diced bell peppers (1 cup), and sliced black olives (0.5 cup) on top.
Bake the Pizza
Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or bake on the sheet. Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and cheese is bubbly.
Garnish
Remove the pizza from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves (0.5 cup). Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.
