Cooking Instructions

1

Prepare the Beans

If using dried black beans, rinse them under cold water and soak them overnight in plenty of water. Drain and rinse again before cooking.

2

Cook the Beans

In a large pot, add the soaked beans and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until the beans are tender. If using canned black beans, skip this step.

3

Sauté the Aromatics

In a separate pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5-7 minutes.

4

Combine and Season

Once the beans are cooked, drain them (if necessary) and add them to the sautéed onions and garlic. Stir in cumin, salt, and black pepper to taste. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

5

Serve

Serve warm, garnished with fresh lime juice if desired.
