Method

Preparing the Mussels

1

Clean the Mussels

Rinse the PEI blue mussels under cold water, scrubbing the shells to remove any debris. Discard any mussels that are open and do not close when tapped.

2

Marinate the Mussels

In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, minced garlic, chopped shallots, fresh dill, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Add the cleaned mussels to the bowl and toss to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow flavors to meld.

Preparing the Crostini

3

Slice the Bread

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the baguette or gluten-free bread into 1/2-inch thick slices.

4

Brush and Bake

Brush both sides of the bread slices with olive oil and place them on a baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden and crispy.

Serving

5

Plate the Dish

Remove the mussels from the refrigerator and let them sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes. Serve the marinated mussels on a platter with the crostini on the side for dipping.
