Method

Bread & Butter Base

1

Prep and preheat

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment or foil for easy cleanup.

2

Slice the baguette in half lengthwise (top and bottom) or cut into 1-inch thick diagonal slices, depending on whether you want pull-apart or individual pieces. If slicing whole lengthwise, place cut sides up on the baking sheet.

3

In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter and olive oil. Whisk briefly to blend into a spreadable consistency. Add the salt and continue to mix.

Garlic & Herbs

4

Add the minced garlic, chopped parsley, dried oregano (if using), black pepper, and lemon zest (if using) to the butter mixture. Stir thoroughly so the garlic and herbs are evenly distributed.

5

Taste a small amount and adjust seasoning — add more salt or garlic to taste. If the garlic is very strong, let the butter sit 5–10 minutes to mellow slightly before using.

Assemble & Bake

6

If using grated cheese, stir the Parmesan into the garlic butter or reserve for sprinkling on top. For mozzarella-topped bread, sprinkle shredded mozzarella over the assembled halves.

7

Generously spread the garlic-herb butter over the cut sides of the bread (or on each slice). Make sure to get butter all the way to the edges for even flavor.

8

If making cheesy garlic bread, sprinkle Parmesan evenly and then top with shredded mozzarella. Optionally sprinkle red pepper flakes for heat.

9

Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes until the butter is melted and the edges are turning golden. For extra-browned, bubbly cheese, switch the oven to broil for 1–2 minutes—watch closely to avoid burning.

10

Remove from oven and let rest 1–2 minutes. If you baked whole halves, cut into serving pieces. Garnish with additional chopped parsley before serving.
