Method

Tea

1

Boil water

Measure 2 cups of fresh cold water and pour into a small saucepan or kettle. Heat the water over medium-high heat until it reaches a rolling boil (large bubbles continuously rising).

2

Warm cup (optional)

If desired, pour a little boiling water into your teacup to warm it, swirl for 10 seconds, then discard that water.

3

Steep tea

Place 1 teaspoon loose tea (or 1 tea bag) into a teapot or directly into the cup. Pour the boiling water over the tea. Cover the teapot or cup and let steep. Steeping time: 2–3 minutes for green or white tea, 3–5 minutes for black tea, 5–7 minutes for herbal tisanes. Adjust to taste — shorter for milder, longer for stronger.

4

Remove tea

After steeping, remove the tea bag or strain out the loose leaves using a fine mesh strainer. Discard the used tea.

5

Add milk and/or sweetener (optional)

If you want milk tea, add 2 tablespoons of milk to the cup and stir. For sweetened tea, add 1 teaspoon sugar or 1 teaspoon honey and stir until dissolved. If you prefer lemon, add 1 slice of lemon instead of milk (do not add lemon and milk together).

6

Serve

Taste and adjust sweetness or milk. Serve immediately while hot.
