Method
Coffee
Measure
Measure approximately 10 grams (0.036 cups) of whole coffee beans for a single 8 fl oz (about 0.5 cup brewed) serving. Use a kitchen scale if possible for accuracy.
Grind
Grind the beans to a medium-coarse grind if using a pour-over or French press, or medium-fine for a drip coffee maker. Grind immediately before brewing to preserve aroma.
Heat water
Heat 0.5 cup (about 120 ml) of freshly filtered water to 90–96°C (195–205°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 30 seconds.
Bloom (pour-over or French press)
Place the ground coffee in your brewer (filter for pour-over, carafe for French press). Pour just enough hot water to wet the grounds (about twice the weight of the coffee — ~20 g water). Allow the coffee to bloom for 30–45 seconds to release CO2.
Brew
Continue pouring the remaining hot water over the grounds in slow, controlled circles (for pour-over) until you reach 0.5 cup total brewed volume. If using French press, add all water, stir gently, cover and steep for 3:30–4:00 minutes, then press slowly. If using a drip machine, start the brew cycle and let it finish.
Adjust
Taste and adjust the strength by increasing coffee dose (grams) for a stronger cup or using finer grind; for weaker coffee, reduce dose or use a coarser grind.
