Soda Base

Method

Soda Base

1

Combine sparkling waters

Pour 1 cup club soda or plain sparkling water into a tall glass. If you prefer a sweeter, more commercial Sprite-like profile, add 1/2 cup carbonated lemon-lime soda instead of part of the plain sparkling water and gently stir to combine.

2

Keep the glass chilled (pre-chill the glass in the fridge or add ice later) so the drink stays fizzy.

Citrus & Sweetening

3

Add citrus

Stir in 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice into the sparkling base. Use freshly squeezed juice for best brightness and flavor.

4

Sweeten to taste

Add 1 teaspoon simple syrup (or agave). Stir gently and taste. Increase in 1/2 teaspoon increments if you want a sweeter, more soda-like result. Mixing cold simple syrup ensures the carbonation is disturbed as little as possible.

Finish & Garnish

5

Add ice: fill the glass with about 1 cup of ice (or to your preference) so the drink is cold without watering it down too quickly.

6

Garnish: Float a lemon or lime wheel on top and add a mint sprig if using. Serve immediately with a straw and enjoy while it's fizzy.
