Method

Carbonation

1

Chill

Place filtered water in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes so it is well chilled. Cold water carbonates more efficiently and results in better bubbles.

2

Fill bottle

Pour 1 cup of chilled filtered still water into the carbonation bottle supplied with your soda maker. Do not fill past the maximum fill line.

3

Carbonate

Attach the bottle to your soda maker according to the manufacturer's instructions. Press the carbonation button or lever to add CO2 in short bursts until you reach desired fizziness. For light sparkle, 1 short press; medium, 2–3 presses; strong, 4–6 presses. Gently release and remove the bottle when finished.

Flavoring (optional)

4

If using flavoring, add it after carbonation. For citrus: add 1 tsp fresh lemon or lime juice and stir gently once or twice with a long spoon to combine. For mint: clap 4 mint leaves between your palms to release aroma and drop into the bottle, stir gently. For cucumber: add 2–3 thin slices. For berries: add 2 tsp purée or 4–6 crushed berries and stir gently. For sweetness: dissolve 1 tsp simple syrup or honey in a small amount of sparkling water first, then stir into the bottle.

5

Do not vigorously shake carbonated water after flavoring—stir gently to avoid foaming and CO2 loss.

Serve

6

Pour the sparkling water into a chilled glass. Use a strainer if you added purée or muddled fruit to remove solids.

7

Garnish with a citrus wedge or mint sprig if desired. Serve immediately for best effervescence.
