Method
Equipment & preparation
- 1
Gather equipment
Gather a drip coffee maker (automatic or pour-over cone), a filter compatible with your brewer (paper or reusable), a kettle, a measuring spoon, and a mug. Use fresh, cool filtered water and Lavazza medium-ground coffee suitable for drip brewing.
- 2
If using paper filters, rinse the paper filter with hot water in the brewer or cone to remove paper taste and preheat the brewer. Discard rinse water.
Brewing
- 3
Measure coffee and water
Measure 2 tablespoons of Lavazza medium-ground coffee per 12 oz (about 350 ml) of water. Adjust slightly to taste (1.5–2.5 tbs for weaker/stronger).
- 4
Add coffee to filter
Place the rinsed filter into the drip basket or cone and add the measured ground coffee, leveling the bed gently with your finger or a spoon so it is even.
- 5
Heat water
Heat water to just off boiling — about 200°F (93°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring water to a boil and let it sit ~30 seconds.
- 6
Bloom (for pour-over) or start brewer
If using a pour-over cone, pour a small amount of hot water (about twice the weight of the coffee — roughly 40 ml) evenly over the grounds to wet them and let bloom for 30–45 seconds. If using an automatic drip machine, simply start the brew cycle.
- 7
Continue pouring (pour-over) or let cycle finish (drip machine)
For pour-over: continue pouring the remaining water slowly in a circular motion, maintaining a steady level so it finishes in about 2.5–3.5 minutes total brew time. For automatic drip: allow the machine to complete its brew cycle (typically 4–6 minutes). Aim for a total contact time of roughly 3–5 minutes.
- 8
Serve
Once brewing is complete, remove the filter and grounds. Pour the brewed Lavazza drip coffee into your mug immediately to preserve aroma and temperature.
