Cooking Instructions

1

Caramelize the Onions

Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 20-25 minutes until the onions are caramelized and golden brown.

2

Cook the Steak

Season the New York steaks with salt and black pepper. In another skillet over medium-high heat, sear the steaks for about 4-5 minutes on each side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness. Remove from heat and let rest for a few minutes before slicing.

3

Prepare the Au Jus

In the same skillet used for the steak, add the beef broth and thyme. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 5-10 minutes to reduce slightly. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

4

Assemble the Sandwich

Toast the sourdough slices until golden. Layer one slice with caramelized onions, sliced steak, Gruyere, and mozzarella. Top with another slice of toasted sourdough.

5

Serve

Slice the sandwich in half and serve with the warm French onion au jus for dipping.
