Classic Negroni

Method

Classic Negroni

  1. 1

    Build and stir

Place a mixing glass or an old-fashioned glass on a flat surface. Add 4 large ice cubes (or enough regular cubes to fill the glass). Pour 1 oz Bombay Sapphire gin, 1 oz sweet vermouth, and 1 oz Campari directly into the glass.

  2. 2

    Stir to chill and dilute

Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture gently for about 20–30 seconds (roughly 20–30 full rotations), until the outside of the glass feels cold and the drink has slight dilution and a glossy appearance.

  3. 3

    Prepare the orange twist

With a vegetable peeler or a sharp knife, remove a 1.5–2 inch strip of orange peel avoiding too much pith. Hold the peel over the drink, skin-side down, and give it a firm twist to express the citrus oils over the surface. Optionally rub the peel around the rim of the glass.

  4. 4

    Garnish and serve

Drop the expressed orange twist into the glass as a garnish (or hang it on the rim). Serve immediately. If you built the drink in a mixing glass, strain over fresh large ice into an old-fashioned glass and then garnish with the orange twist.
