Method
Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a coupe or old-fashioned glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you build the drink.
- 2
Combine ingredients
Add the bourbon, sweet vermouth, green Chartreuse, simple syrup, orange bitters, and Angostura bitters into a mixing glass or cocktail shaker.
- 3
Add ice and stir
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently and continuously for about 30–45 seconds (roughly 20–30 turns) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted.
- 4
Prepare glass
If you used ice water to chill the serving glass, dump it out and dry the glass.
- 5
Strain
Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or over a large ice cube in an old-fashioned glass, depending on your preference (up to you whether you serve up or on the rocks). Use a Hawthorne and fine mesh strainer if you prefer a very clean pour.
- 6
Garnish
Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down over the glass and giving a sharp twist to release the oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the cocktail.
- 7
Serve
Serve immediately. This cocktail yields a balanced, herbaceous riff on a Manhattan with the Chartreuse adding floral, savory complexity.
