Base custard malt shake
Garnish and serving
Method
Base custard malt shake
- 1
Prepare blender
Chill the blender jar (optional) by placing it in the refrigerator for 10–15 minutes or add a few ice cubes and discard them after chilling. This helps keep the custard cold while blending.
- 2
- 3
Pulse and blend
Pulse the blender 3–4 times to break up the custard, then blend on medium-high for 20–30 seconds until smooth and thick. Stop and scrape down the sides with a spatula if needed. Avoid over-blending to keep the shake thick.
- 4
Check consistency and adjust
If the shake is too thick to pour, add 1–2 tablespoons milk at a time and pulse until you reach the desired pourable consistency. If it’s too thin, add a few tablespoons more frozen custard and pulse briefly.
Garnish and serving
- 5
Prepare serving glasses
Drizzle about 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup inside two chilled tall glasses, swirling it up the sides for decoration.
- 6
Pour and top
Pour the blended malt shake evenly into the prepared glasses, leaving about 1 inch from the top for whipped cream.
- 7
Garnish
Top each shake with roughly 1/4 cup whipped cream. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon chocolate shavings or a light dusting of cocoa powder over the whipped cream and place a maraschino cherry on top. Add straws if desired.
- 8
Serve immediately
Serve the frozen custard malt shakes right away while cold and thick for best texture and flavor.
