Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Choose a rocks glass. Run a lime wedge around the rim, then dip the rim into smoked salt spread on a small plate so it adheres evenly. Set the glass aside.

2

Combine ingredients

In a shaker filled halfway with ice, pour 2 oz añejo tequila, 0.5 oz reposado tequila, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz agave syrup, 0.25 oz orange curaçao, and add 2 dashes of aromatic bitters.

3

Shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

4

Strain over ice

Place a large fresh ice cube (or 2–3 large cubes) in the prepared rocks glass. Double-strain the cocktail into the glass to keep small ice shards out.

5

Garnish

Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist skin-side down above the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then drop the twist into the drink. Add a lime wheel on the rim or floated in the glass.

6

Serve

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the rounded oak and caramel of the añejo balanced by bright lime and subtle orange notes.

Optional Smoked Citrus Mist

7

Cold smoke (optional)

If you want an aromatic smoke note, place the finished cocktail (covered) in a small dome or cloche. Ignite a pinch of wood chips on a foil dish or use a smoking gun to generate smoke, then route the smoke into the dome and cover. Let sit 30–45 seconds to infuse, then remove the dome and serve. If using quick spirit ignition, be careful with open flame—use a heatproof dish and small amount.
