Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to keep the drink cold and preserve foam.

2

Brew espresso

Pull a fresh double shot of espresso (about 2 oz). If you don't have an espresso machine, brew very strong coffee (2 oz) and let it cool slightly so it is hot but not boiling.

3

Combine ingredients

Add ice to the cocktail shaker (about 1 cup). Pour in 2 oz freshly brewed espresso, 1.5 oz vodka, 1 oz coffee liqueur, and 0.5 oz simple syrup.

4

Dry shake (optional, for foam)

For a richer, frothier crema, first close the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 8–10 seconds to emulsify the espresso and create foam.

5

Wet shake

Add ice to the shaker if you dry-shook, or if you didn't dry-shake proceed directly: shake vigorously with ice for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is very cold. This chills the drink and further aerates the espresso to produce a creamy foam.

6

Strain

Remove ice from the chilled glass if used. Double-strain the cocktail into the chilled martini/coupe glass through a fine strainer (if available) to remove ice shards and ensure a smooth texture with a clean foam head.

7

Garnish and serve

Garnish with three whole coffee beans placed on the foam. Serve immediately so the crema remains intact.

Equipment

8

Use the measuring jigger to measure spirits and syrup. Use the cocktail shaker and strainer as described above. The chilled glass enhances presentation and temperature.
