House Margarita Frozen Mix

Method

Prepare Glass

  1. 1

    Rim (optional)

If desired, run a lemon or lime wedge around the rim of a large 16–20 oz hurricane or margarita glass, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of salt. Set glass in the freezer to chill while preparing drinks.

Make Frozen House Margarita

  1. 2

    Combine and blend

In a blender add 6 oz blanco tequila, 2 oz orange liqueur, 3 oz fresh lime juice, 1 oz simple syrup and 4 cups ice. Secure lid and blend on high until the mixture is smooth and slushy (30–60 seconds). If too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons cold water and pulse to adjust consistency. Taste and adjust sweetness with up to 0.5 oz more simple syrup if needed.

  2. 3

    Transfer

Pour the frozen margarita mixture into a clean pitcher or measuring cup with a spout for easy pouring. Leave enough room in the glass for the hurricane swirl.

Make Frozen Hurricane

  1. 4

    Combine and blend

Rinse the blender (or use a second clean blender). Add 3 oz dark rum, 1 oz light rum, 3 oz passion fruit puree, 1 oz orange juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.5 oz grenadine and 3 cups ice. Blend on high until smooth and slushy, about 30–60 seconds. If the mixture is too thick to pour, add 1–2 tablespoons cold water and pulse. Adjust grenadine or passion fruit to taste for sweetness and tartness.

  2. 5

    Transfer

Pour the hurricane mixture into a separate pitcher or measuring cup with a spout for easy layering.

Assemble the Swirl

  1. 6

Remove the chilled glass from the freezer and hold it at a slight angle. Pour the margarita slush into the glass about two-thirds full, using a steady stream to create an even base.

  2. 7

Slowly pour the hurricane slush down the inside of the glass on the opposite side (or through the center) in a thin stream so the two frozen mixtures begin to intermix but still form visible swirls. You can use a spoon held against the inside of the glass to slow the flow and help create distinct swirls if desired.

  3. 8

If the two textures differ slightly, you can alternate small ladlefuls from each pitcher to build a layered swirl effect, finishing with a small dollop of the hurricane mix on top for color contrast.

  4. 9

Wipe any drips from the glass rim. Garnish with a lemon (or lime) wedge on the rim and serve immediately with a straw and a small cocktail spoon.
