Garlic Butter

Method

Garlic Butter

1

Soften and mix

Let 1/2 cup unsalted butter sit at room temperature until soft (about 20–30 minutes) or soften gently in microwave in 5–7 second bursts until spreadable.

2

Combine ingredients

In a medium bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic (3 cloves), 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley, 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan (if using), 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice (if using). Stir thoroughly until uniform. Taste and adjust salt/garlic if needed.

Bread Preparation

3

Preheat oven

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Position a rack in the center of the oven.

4

Slice the bread

Using a serrated knife, slice the baguette or loaf in half lengthwise for two large pieces, or cut into 1–1.5 inch thick diagonal slices without cutting all the way through (for pull-apart style). If you prefer thinner crispier pieces, slice crosswise into individual slices about 1 inch thick.

5

Optional oil brush

If using, brush the cut sides lightly with 1 tablespoon olive oil to help crisp the crust and add flavor.

Assemble and Bake

6

Spread garlic butter

Using a knife or offset spatula, spread the prepared garlic butter evenly over the cut surfaces of the bread. For pull-apart slices, be sure to work butter into the cuts so it melts between slices.

7

Add cheese (optional)

If using mozzarella, sprinkle 1 cup shredded mozzarella evenly over the top of the buttered bread. Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano or Italian seasoning on top for extra flavor.

8

Wrap or place on baking sheet

For softer interior and crisp crust, place the bread cut-side up on a baking sheet lined with foil or parchment. For very soft pull-apart garlic bread, wrap loosely in foil. For crispier top, leave unwrapped.

9

Bake

Bake in the preheated 400°F (200°C) oven: if wrapped, bake 10–12 minutes to heat through; if unwrapped with cheese, bake 8–10 minutes until the butter is melted and cheese is bubbly and lightly golden; if you want extra crispness, broil 1–2 minutes at the end—watch closely to avoid burning.

10

Rest and serve

Remove from oven, let rest 1–2 minutes. If wrapped, open foil and slice (if not pre-sliced). Garnish with a little extra chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.
