Method
Patty
Prepare the Beef Patty
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of ground beef with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 teaspoon of black pepper. Form the mixture into one large patty, about 8 ounces.
Cook the Patty
Heat 1 tablespoon of cooking oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until it reaches your desired doneness. Remove from heat and set aside.
Onions
Add Beer
Pour in 1 cup of beer and let it simmer for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid reduces slightly and the onions are caramelized.
Assembly
Assemble the Patty Melt
On one slice of rye bread, spread 1 tablespoon of Thousand Island dressing. Place the cooked beef patty on top, followed by the sautéed onions, 1 slice of Swiss cheese, and 1 slice of American cheese.
Top and Grill
Spread 1 tablespoon of Thousand Island dressing on another slice of rye bread and place it on top of the sandwich. Heat the skillet again over medium heat and grill the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
