Margarita Upgrade (Make it a margarita +4)

Method

Margarita Upgrade (Make it a margarita +4)

  1. 1

    Prepare glass

Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate and dip the rim into the salt, rotating to coat evenly. Set glass aside.

  2. 2

    Build and shake

In a shaker, combine 1 oz reposado tequila, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec), and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional). Add 1 cup of ice, cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

  3. 3

    Strain and garnish

Double-strain (or regular strain) the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh ice or serve neat in the chilled coupe per preference. Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim.

  4. 4

    Notes

Adjust sweetness by increasing or omitting the simple syrup. Using reposado tequila gives a rounded, slightly oaky profile; blanco can be substituted for a brighter character.

Cadillac Upgrade (Make it a Cadillac +5)

  1. 5

    Prepare glass

Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or lowball glass. Pour coarse salt onto a small plate and dip the rim into the salt, rotating to coat evenly. Set glass aside.

  2. 6

    Build and shake

In a shaker, combine 1 oz reposado tequila, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz Grand Marnier, and 0.25 oz agave syrup. Add 1 cup of ice, cap the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted.

  3. 7

    Strain and garnish

Strain the cocktail into the prepared glass over fresh large ice (or serve neat in a chilled coupe). Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge. For an extra Cadillac flourish, float a thin 0.25 oz layer of Grand Marnier on top by pouring gently over the back of a spoon.

  4. 8

    Notes

Grand Marnier (orange cognac liqueur) is the signature difference that justifies the Cadillac upcharge — it adds depth and sweetness. Adjust agave to taste.
