Method

Dough Preparation

1

Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

2

Mix Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until the dough begins to come together.

3

Knead Dough

Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

4

Rise the Dough

Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours, or until it has doubled in size.

Assembling and Baking

5

Preheat Oven

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up.

6

Shape the Dough

Once the dough has risen, punch it down and transfer it to a floured surface. Roll or stretch it out into a round shape about 12 inches in diameter.

7

Add Sauce and Cheese

Transfer the shaped dough onto a pizza peel or baking sheet. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Tear the fresh mozzarella into pieces and distribute them evenly on top of the sauce.

8

Bake the Pizza

Carefully slide the pizza onto the preheated pizza stone or place the baking sheet in the oven. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.

9

Finish with Basil

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately scatter fresh basil leaves on top. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Let cool for a couple of minutes before slicing.
