Tea Base

Method

Tea Base

1

Brew the tea

Bring 1 liter of water to a near-boil (about 95°C / 203°F). Remove from heat and steep the 4 black tea bags (or 12–14 g loose-leaf) for 4–5 minutes for a full-bodied base. Avoid oversteeping to prevent excessive bitterness.

2

After steeping, remove the tea bags or strain out leaves. Pour the hot brewed tea into a heatproof container and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.

3

Once slightly cooled, add 1 liter of cold water to the brewed tea to bring the temperature down and to yield a balanced concentration for iced tea.

Sweetener & Balance

4

Dissolve sugar

While the brewed tea is still warm (but not scalding), stir in 6 tablespoons granulated sugar until fully dissolved. If you prefer using simple syrup, substitute 60 ml light simple syrup and skip dissolving granulated sugar.

5

Taste the tea and add 60 ml fresh lemon juice. Stir and taste again. If you want slightly sweeter tea, add the optional 60 ml light simple syrup in small increments until the desired sweetness is reached.

Flavor & Aroma

6

Infuse mint and citrus

Lightly bruise 8–10 fresh mint leaves with the back of a spoon or between your palms to release aroma. Add the bruised mint and 4 lemon slices to the tea. If using, add 1 tsp cold-pressed orange oil or a strip of orange peel for a subtle orange note.

7

Cover and refrigerate the tea for at least 1 hour, or up to 4 hours, to allow the mint and citrus to infuse. Do not leave longer than 6 hours to avoid excessive bitter or green notes from mint.

Finishing & Serve

8

Strain and chill

After chilling, strain the tea through a fine-mesh sieve to remove mint leaves and lemon slices. Fill a large pitcher or individual glasses with ice (about 4 cups total for pitcher-sized batch).

9

Pour the chilled tea over the ice. If you want a lighter, effervescent finish (NÜTRL lighter style), top each glass with a splash of sparkling water — about 60–125 ml per serving (250 ml for the full pitcher).

10

Garnish with remaining lemon slices and a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately over ice with optional extra lemon wedge on the rim.
