Cocktail

Method

Prep

1

Chill a coupe or martini glass in the freezer for at least 5 minutes or fill with ice water while you prepare the cocktail.

2

If using fresh citrus (recommended), roll the grapefruit and lemon on the countertop firmly to loosen juices, then cut and juice enough to yield the required amounts.

Mixing

3

Combine ingredients

Add 2 oz Ketel One vodka, 0.75 oz Cointreau, 1 oz fresh grapefruit juice, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup (optional) into a cocktail shaker.

4

Add ice and shake

Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup). Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–18 seconds, until the exterior of the shaker is well chilled and slightly frosted.

5

Double strain

Discard ice or water from the chilled serving glass. Using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine-mesh strainer (optional), double-strain the cocktail into the chilled coupe or martini glass to remove ice shards and pulp for a smooth texture.

Garnish & Serve

6

Express the oils of a grapefruit twist over the surface of the cocktail by holding the twist skin-side down over the drink and giving it a quick fold or squeeze, then rim or drop the twist into the drink. Alternatively, garnish with a small grapefruit wedge on the rim and an optional lemon twist for aroma.

7

Serve immediately. The recipe yields a single cocktail best enjoyed freshly shaken and chilled.
