Method

Preparation

1

Rim the glass

Pour the coarse salt onto a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or coupe glass, then dip the rim into the salt to coat about half to three-quarters. Set the glass aside.

2

If you prefer no salt, skip the rimming step and simply chill the glass.

Mixing the Margarita

3

Add the reposado tequila (2 oz), agave nectar (0.5 oz), fresh lime juice (1 oz), fresh orange juice (0.5 oz), Cointreau (0.5 oz), and one dash of Angostura bitters to a cocktail shaker.

4

Fill the shaker with ice (about 6 medium cubes).

5

Shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is well-chilled and slightly frosted. This both chills and dilutes the drink to balance the agave sweetness and citrus.

6

Prepare your serving glass with fresh ice (about 1 cup of ice cubes) if serving on the rocks, or leave it up (no ice) if serving straight up.

7

Double-strain (using the shaker’s strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into the prepared glass to remove ice shards and any pulp for a smoother finish.

Finish & Garnish

8

Express a lime peel or squeeze a small wedge over the drink to release oils, then drop the lime wheel/wedge into the glass.

9

Float the thin orange slice on top for aroma and visual contrast, if using.

10

Serve immediately and enjoy. The recipe yields a balanced margarita with rounded agave sweetness, bright lime, subtle orange notes, and gentle complexity from the bitters.
