Cordial

Method

Cordial

1

Measure

Measure 1 oz of brandy and 1 oz of Benedictine using a jigger. The 1:1 ratio is the classic B&B balance.

2

Combine

Pour both the brandy and the Benedictine directly into a chilled snifter or old-fashioned glass. Alternatively, if you prefer a slightly more diluted and integrated drink, add the measured spirits to a mixing glass with ice and stir gently for 15–20 seconds, then strain into the serving glass.

3

Garnish

Express the orange peel over the glass by holding it skin-side down above the drink and giving it a firm squeeze to release oils. Optionally run the peel around the rim of the glass, then drop it in as garnish. If using lemon peel for extra brightness, express and discard or add as an additional garnish to taste.

4

Serve

Serve immediately while aromatic. If you chilled the glass beforehand, no ice is necessary in the served drink. If you prepared the drink over ice and strained it, serve neat in the chilled glass.

Serving/Tools

5

If chilling the glass: fill the snifter with ice while you prepare the spirits, then discard the ice just before pouring to ensure the glass is cold but the cordial is not diluted.

6

If stirring: add measured spirits to a mixing glass with the ice specified, stir with a bar spoon for 15–20 seconds until slightly chilled and lightly diluted, then double-strain into the serving glass.

7

Use the peeler or channel knife to cut a neat twist of orange peel (about 1" x 2.5" or as preferred). Hold over the glass and twist to express oils; rub the peel on the rim if desired.

8

Enjoy responsibly; the recipe yields a single serving.
