Blue Dog Bread

Method

Pimento Cheese

  1. 1

    Prepare the Cheese Mixture

In a mixing bowl, combine the sharp cheddar cheese and cream cheese. Use a hand mixer or spatula to blend until smooth.

  2. 2

    Add Pimentos

Stir in the chopped pimentos, mixing well to distribute evenly throughout the cheese mixture.

  3. 3

    Incorporate Remaining Ingredients

Add mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and hot sauce (if using). Mix until fully combined.

  4. 4

    Chill

Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.

Pepper Jelly

  1. 5

    Prepare the Ingredients

In a medium saucepan, combine finely chopped jalapeños, sugar, apple cider vinegar, and salt. Stir to mix.

  2. 6

    Cook the Mixture

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. 7

    Add Pectin

Once boiling, add the pectin and continue to stir for 1-2 minutes until fully incorporated.

  4. 8

    Cool and Set

Remove from heat and allow the jelly to cool to room temperature, then transfer to jars and refrigerate.

Blue Dog Bread

  1. 9

    Activate Yeast

In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.

  2. 10

    Prepare the Dough

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

  3. 11

    Knead the Dough

Mix until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  4. 12

    Let it Rise

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. 13

    Shape and Bake

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased bread pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. 14

    Cool and Slice

Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve with pimento cheese and pepper jelly.
