Preparation
Prepare ingredients
Measure the gin, dry vermouth, blue curaçao, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup. Make sure the sparkling water is well chilled. Have edible glitter and garnish ready.
Mixing
In a mixing glass filled halfway with ice, pour 2 oz London dry gin, 0.5 oz dry vermouth, 0.5 oz blue curaçao, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.25 oz simple syrup. These quantities balance botanicals, citrus brightness, and the planetary-blue sweetness.
Stir the mixture briskly for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted (use a bar spoon and circular motion). Stirring rather than shaking preserves clarity and gives a silky texture while keeping the shimmer visible.
Assembly
Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Strain the stirred mixture into the chilled coupe or Nick & Nora using a fine strainer to remove tiny ice shards.
Gently pour 1.5 oz chilled sparkling water down the inside of the glass to add a light effervescence. Do not stir vigorously — you want gentle bubbles.
Sprinkle 1 tsp edible glitter on the surface of the cocktail. Use a small spoon to let the glitter settle; the glitter will catch the light and create a swirling planetary effect. If desired, give one very gentle swirl with the tip of a bar spoon to set the motion.
Garnish with a lemon twist or a dehydrated citrus wheel placed on the rim or floated on the surface. Serve immediately while effervescence and shimmer are active.
Serving & Notes
Serve the Fantastic Planet immediately. The drink is best enjoyed chilled and within a few minutes so the glitter remains suspended and the bubbles are lively.
For a non-alcoholic version: replace gin with 2 oz non-alcoholic botanical spirit, replace dry vermouth with 0.5 oz non-alcoholic aperitif, and proceed the same. Adjust simple syrup to taste.
Safety note: use only edible, food-grade glitter labeled safe for consumption. Avoid using craft glitter.
