Method

Preparation

1

Prepare the Potatoes

Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thick strips, about 1/4 to 1/2 inch wide.

2

Soak the Potatoes

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps remove excess starch and makes the fries crispier.

3

Dry the Potatoes

Drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel to remove excess moisture.

4

Heat the Oil

In a large pot or deep fryer, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).

5

Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in small batches. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.

6

Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil and drain on paper towels. While still hot, season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

7

Serve

Serve the hand-cut fries immediately while they are hot and crispy.
