Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Make honey syrup

Combine the honey (10 ml) and hot water (5 ml) in a small container and stir until fully dissolved to make ~15 ml of honey syrup. Let cool briefly if still warm.

  2. 2

    Build in mixing glass

Into a chilled mixing glass add Buffalo Trace Bourbon (45 ml), Johnnie Walker Black (15 ml), the honey syrup (~15 ml), and fresh lemon juice (5 ml).

  3. 3

    Add ice and stir

Add 3 large ice cubes to the mixing glass and stir briskly for 20–30 seconds (about 20–30 full rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted β€” the glass should feel cold and a little frosty.

  4. 4

    Prepare serving glass

Place one large clear ice cube into an Old Fashioned (rocks) glass.

  5. 5

    Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled mixture from the mixing glass into the prepared serving glass over the large ice cube.

Garnish

  1. 6

    Express and garnish

Hold the orange peel (wide strip) over the glass, skin-side down, and give it a firm twist to express the oils onto the surface of the drink. Rub the peel around the rim of the glass and drop the peel into the drink as garnish.

  2. 7

    Serve

Optionally serve with a short stirring straw. Serve immediately while chilled.
