Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare honey syrup

If you don't already have honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and hot water (e.g., 1/4 cup honey + 1/4 cup hot water). Stir until fully combined and cool before using. This yields a pourable syrup that blends easily into cocktails.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a cocktail shaker, add 2 oz bourbon, 0.75 oz amaro, 0.5 oz ginger liqueur (or ginger syrup mix), 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, 0.25 oz honey syrup, 0.25 oz orange curaçao (optional), and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.

  3. 3

    Dry shake (optional)

If you used ginger syrup or heavy honey syrup and want a slightly silkier texture, seal the shaker and shake vigorously without ice for 8–10 seconds to emulsify.

  4. 4

    Shake with ice

Add a generous scoop of ice to the shaker and shake hard for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker becomes very cold and properly diluted (about 20–25% total shaker time including dry shake).

  5. 5

    Strain

Using a Hawthorne or fine strainer, double-strain the cocktail into an old-fashioned glass over a single large ice cube or ice block.

Garnish & Finish

  1. 6

Express the orange peel over the drink by holding it skin-side down above the glass and giving it a sharp twist to release the oils, then rub the peel along the glass rim and drop it into the drink.

  2. 7

Optional: Spear a piece of crystallized ginger and rest it on the ice or on the glass edge for an aromatic accent.

  3. 8

Serve immediately. Sip slowly to appreciate the layered bitter-sweet amaro, ginger warmth, bright lemon and rounded honey notes.
