Verdant Tonic (per cocktail)
Green Herb Cordial (makes ~8 oz)
Tangerine Tonic (makes ~12 oz)
Method
Green Herb Cordial
Make simple herb syrup
Combine 1 cup water and 1 cup granulated sugar in a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth into a clean container, pressing gently on the solids to extract liquid. Discard solids. Chill the cordial until cold. Yields approximately 8 oz. Store refrigerated up to 2 weeks.
Tangerine Tonic
Chill tonic water and tangerine juice thoroughly. Combine 10 oz chilled tonic water with 2 oz fresh tangerine juice and gently stir to combine. Add zest if using for extra aromatic lift. Keep chilled and gently carbonate will dissipate if stirred vigorously. Yield ~12 oz (enough for 4 cocktails).
Verdant Tonic Cocktail Assembly
Shake: In a cocktail shaker, add 1.5 oz fino sherry, 0.5 oz chilled green herb cordial, 0.75 oz fresh cucumber juice, and 0.5 oz fresh lime juice. Add a handful of ice (about 1 cup).
Dry-shake or brief shake: For a slightly more integrated texture, give a 5-second dry shake (no ice) if you prefer, then add ice and shake hard for 10–12 seconds until the shaker is cold.
Strain: Double-strain the shaken mixture into the prepared ice-filled glass using a fine strainer to remove any herb bits and cucumber solids.
Top: Gently top the strained cocktail with 3 oz tangerine tonic, pouring slowly down the side of the glass to preserve bubbles and create a gentle layering.
Serve: Present with a stirring straw so the guest can combine the tonic and sherry components as they sip.
