Equipment & Prep
Gather equipment
Collect a drip coffee maker or pour-over cone (e.g., V60), paper filter or permanent filter, burr grinder, kettle, scale, and a carafe or mug. Ensure all equipment is clean and dry.
Measure and heat water: measure 530 ml filtered water for brewing and 100 ml for rinsing. Heat to 92–96°C (197–205°F). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and rest 30 seconds.
Place a paper filter in the dripper and rinse it with the 100 ml of hot water to remove paper taste and preheat the dripper and server. Discard rinse water.
Grinding & Dose
Weigh and grind beans
Weigh 35 g (0.035 kg) of whole beans. Grind to a medium-coarse grind suitable for drip: similar to sea salt (for automatic drip use a medium grind; for pour-over use medium-fine to medium-coarse depending on device).
Brewing
Set up
Place the dripper or coffee maker on the carafe or mug. Add the ground coffee to the rinsed filter and gently level the bed of grounds.
Bloom (for pour-over) / Initial wetting (drip)
Pour 70–80 ml of hot water evenly over the grounds to saturate them, starting from the center and spiraling outward, then back to the center. Allow the coffee to bloom for 30–45 seconds; you should see bubbling and expansion as gases release.
Continue pouring
After the bloom, slowly pour the remaining hot water in stages or let the drip machine continue automatically. Aim for a total brew weight of ~530 ml (including bloom water). Maintain an even, gentle pour and avoid pouring directly on the filter edge. Total contact time should be about 3 to 4 minutes for pour-over and 4 to 6 minutes for automatic drip.
Finish
When the water has flowed through the grounds and dripping has slowed to a thin stream, remove the dripper or turn off the machine. Give the carafe a gentle swirl to homogenize the brew.
