Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare espresso

Pull a double shot of espresso (about 2 oz) using a good-quality espresso machine. If you don’t have an espresso machine, use a strong concentrated coffee (preferably ristretto-style) and let it rest 30–60 seconds so it’s not piping hot.

2

Combine ingredients

Add the espresso, milk (4 oz), black walnut syrup (0.5 oz), and 2 dashes of black walnut bitters into a cocktail shaker. Add enough ice to chill (about 4 large cubes).

3

Shake

Seal the shaker and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold and you see a light froth from the milk and espresso.

4

Strain and serve

Double-strain (or fine-strain) into a chilled coupe or a rocks glass over one large ice cube, depending on preference. The double-strain helps remove any tiny ice shards and creates a smoother texture.

5

Garnish

Finish with one walnut half perched on the rim or a light dusting of grated nutmeg over the top. Serve immediately.
