Can Preparation
Optional Filling / Flavor (for a novelty pop can cocktail or mocktail)
Tools
Method
Can Preparation
If the can is a used beverage can, rinse it thoroughly with warm water to remove any sticky residue. Use a small brush or cloth to clean around the rim and pull tab area. Drain and let it air dry or pat dry with a clean towel.
If the can is still sealed and you wish to open it, use the can's pull tab or a can opener/church key as appropriate. Open carefully to avoid splashing or sharp edges.
Inspect the interior for any remaining liquid or debris. If you plan to reuse the can as a container for a fresh drink, rinse once more with drinking water and drain.
Optional Filling / Flavor (make a lime-mint sparkling pop can mocktail)
Chill and Prepare
Place 1–2 ice cubes into the cleaned can (if the can will be served chilled). If you prefer not to put ice directly in the can, chill the sparkling water and serve without ice.
Measure and Mix
Using a jigger or measuring cup, pour 0.5 oz fresh lime juice and 0.5 oz simple syrup into a small funnel. Insert the funnel into the can opening and carefully add the liquids.
Add 6 oz sparkling water or club soda through the funnel slowly to avoid excessive fizz. If the can opening is too small for a funnel, mix the lime juice, syrup and sparkling water in a small pitcher and then pour carefully into the can.
Garnish and Serve
Add remaining ice cubes if desired, lightly bruise 2–3 mint leaves between your palms and drop them into the can. Close by leaving the pull tab up for drinking, or transfer to a glass if preferred. Serve immediately.
If using the can as a novelty container and you wish to seal it again for transport, use a purpose-made reusable can lid (not included). Do not attempt to reseal with adhesive or heat as pressure can build up.
Cleanup
After use, empty remaining liquid, rinse the can with warm water, and recycle the aluminum can according to local guidelines. Clean any reusable tools (funnel, measuring cup, brush) with warm soapy water and dry.
