Method
For the Mozzarella Sticks
- 1
Prepare the Cheese Sticks
Unwrap the mozzarella sticks and place them on a plate. Freeze for about 30 minutes to firm them up.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In three separate shallow bowls, set up your breading station. In the first bowl, add flour. In the second bowl, beat the eggs. In the third bowl, combine breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- 3
Bread the Cheese Sticks
Take each frozen mozzarella stick and dip it into the flour, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the breadcrumb mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Repeat for all cheese sticks.
- 4
Double Coat
For a thicker coating, repeat the breading process for each mozzarella stick a second time.
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Cheese Sticks
Carefully place the breaded mozzarella sticks into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
For the Marinara Sauce
- 7
Sauté Garlic
In a medium saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic cloves and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- 8
Combine Ingredients
Add the canned crushed tomatoes, dried basil, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir to combine.
- 9
Simmer the Sauce
Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- 10
Serve
Remove the marinara sauce from heat and serve warm alongside the mozzarella sticks.
