Method
Preparation
- 1
Mix Base Ingredients
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together heavy cream, whole milk, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until the sugar is fully dissolved. For chocolate ice cream, add the unsweetened cocoa powder at this stage and mix well.
- 2
Chill the Mixture
Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid, and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results. This allows the flavors to meld.
Churning and Freezing
- 3
Churn the Ice Cream
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions, usually about 20-25 minutes. If making chocolate ice cream, consider adding chocolate chips during the last 5 minutes of churning.
- 4
Transfer to Container
Once the ice cream has reached a soft-serve consistency, transfer it to an airtight container. If desired, fold in chopped nuts for added texture.
- 5
Freeze
Seal the container and place it in the freezer for at least 4 hours, or until it is firm.
- 6
Serve
Scoop the ice cream into bowls or cones and enjoy your homemade vanilla or chocolate ice cream!
