Method

Preparing the Potatoes

  1. 1

    Wash and Peel

Wash 4 russet potatoes under cold running water, scrubbing them to remove any dirt. Peel the potatoes using a vegetable peeler.

  2. 2

    Cut into Fries

Cut the peeled potatoes into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick, to create french fry shapes.

  3. 3

    Soak in Water

Place the cut potatoes in a bowl of cold water and let them soak for at least 30 minutes. This helps to remove excess starch and results in crispier fries.

Frying the Fries

  1. 4

    Heat the Oil

In a deep-fryer or a large pot, heat 4 cups of vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C). Use a thermometer to monitor the temperature.

  2. 5

    Drain and Dry

After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture.

  3. 6

    Fry the Potatoes

Carefully add the dried potato strips to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pot. Fry for about 5-7 minutes or until they are golden brown and crispy.

  4. 7

    Drain and Season

Remove the fries from the oil using a slotted spoon and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While they are still hot, season with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

Serving

  1. 8

    Serve Hot

Serve the french fries hot, either on their own or with your favorite dipping sauces.
