Method
Cocktail
- 1
Chill glass
Place a rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail (2–3 minutes).
- 2
Measure spirits
Using a jigger, pour 1 oz Cutwater gin, 1 oz Select aperitif (or a similar bitter-sweet Italian aperitif), and 1 oz lo-fi sweet vermouth into a mixing glass.
- 3
- 4
Prepare glass and ice
Empty the chilled rocks glass of any ice water. Add a single large ice cube to the glass.
- 5
Strain
Using a strainer, pour the stirred mixture from the mixing glass over the large ice cube in the chilled rocks glass.
- 6
Express orange oil
Cut a 1-inch wide peel from an orange. Hold the peel over the drink, skin side down, and give it a firm squeeze to express the citrus oils across the surface of the cocktail. Optionally, run the peel around the rim for added aroma.
- 7
Garnish and finish
Drop the expressed orange twist into the drink or rest it on the rim. Serve immediately.
Optional/Serving notes
- 8
For a slightly brighter aroma, flame the orange twist briefly over the cocktail before dropping it in (exercise caution). For a slightly more diluted version, stir 5–10 seconds longer.
