Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare dry ingredients

Measure the electrolyte powder (1 tsp) and creatine monohydrate (3 g) and combine them in a small bowl so they are ready to add. If your electrolyte powder is flavoured and powdered, ensure it is fine and clump-free.

  2. 2

Dry shake (if using egg white)

If using the egg white for froth, add the egg white, electrolyte/creatine mix, banana liqueur (0.75 oz), lime juice (0.5 oz), simple syrup (0.25 oz) and 2 oz añejo rum to a cocktail shaker with no ice. Dry shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds to emulsify and to help dissolve the powdered supplements into the liquid matrix.

  3. 3

    Wet shake

Add the ice (about 1 cup) to the shaker. Seal and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds until the outside of the shaker is well chilled. This both chills and dilutes the drink appropriately and helps fully dissolve creatine and electrolyte powder.

  4. 4

    Alternative (no egg white)

If not using egg white, combine añejo rum, banana liqueur, lime juice, simple syrup, orange curaçao (if using), and the electrolyte/creatine mixture in the shaker with ice and shake vigorously 15–20 seconds to dissolve powders and chill.

  5. 5

    Strain and serve

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or rocks glass over fresh ice (or neat into a coupe if you prefer). Double straining removes any small bits of undissolved powder or ice shards for a smoother mouthfeel.

  6. 6

    Finish

Express the oils of a lime wheel over the drink and drop the wheel onto the rim. Garnish with a banana slice or dehydrated banana chip perched on the rim. Optionally grate a light dusting of nutmeg on top for warm aromatic notes.

Notes & tips

  1. 7

Dissolution: Creatine dissolves better in warm liquids but will dissolve sufficiently with vigorous shaking; using micronized creatine helps. If you notice grittiness, stir the creatine and electrolyte into a tablespoon of warm water first until dissolved, then add to the shaker.

  2. 8

Serving & safety: This cocktail contains alcohol and dietary supplements (creatine and electrolytes). Do not operate heavy machinery after consuming. If you are on medication, have kidney issues, or have concerns about mixing creatine with alcohol, consult a healthcare professional before consuming. Use pasteurized egg white or omit if pregnant or concerned about raw egg.

  3. 9

Adjust sweetness and strength: Increase simple syrup by 0.25–0.5 oz if you prefer sweeter; reduce rum by 0.5 oz for a milder drink. If electrolyte powder is flavored/sweetened, reduce the simple syrup accordingly.
