Method
Cocktail
Measure
Measure equal parts gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. For a single Negroni use 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari and 1 oz sweet vermouth. (The ingredient list uses cups for bulk; substitute proportions remain 1:1:1.)
Prepare glass
Place a large ice cube or several large ice cubes into a short old-fashioned glass (rocks glass). If serving multiple cocktails, chill glasses briefly in the freezer or fill with ice while you prepare the drinks.
Stir
Add the measured gin, Campari and sweet vermouth into a mixing glass filled with ice. Stir gently for 20β30 seconds (about 15β20 full strokes) until well-chilled and properly diluted (mix is slightly reduced in temperature and slightly diluted).
Strain and serve
Using a strainer, pour the chilled mixture into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube(s).
Optional (aromatic adjustment)
Bitters or sugar (optional)
If you prefer a slightly rounder or more aromatic Negroni, add 1β2 dashes of Angostura bitters into the mixing glass before stirring, or drop a sugar cube into the serving glass and muddle briefly with a few drops of water before adding ice and straining in the cocktail. Stir again briefly to incorporate.
