Method
Cocktail
Measure and pour
Place a mixing glass or a rocks glass large enough for stirring in front of you. Add 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth into the glass.
Add ice
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes until nearly full. Using large cubes chills the drink effectively while diluting slowly.
Stir
Using a bar spoon, stir the mixture for 20β30 seconds (about 20β30 strokes). Stirring chills the ingredients and adds the proper dilution; the drink should be well-chilled and slightly viscous.
Prepare serving glass
If using a rocks glass, place 1β2 large ice cubes in the serving glass (or a single large cube).
Strain
Using a hawthorn strainer or the mixing glass lid, strain the chilled Negroni into the prepared rocks glass over the fresh ice.
Garnish & Serve
Express orange oil
Hold an orange peel over the drink, skin side down. Give the peel a quick, firm squeeze to express the oils across the surface of the cocktail, then rub the peel around the glass rim.
Garnish
Drop the expressed orange twist into the drink or perch it on the rim. Optionally add half an orange slice on the rim for presentation.
Serve immediately. Enjoy responsibly.
