Cocktail

Method

Prepare Glass & Ingredients

1

Chill glass

Place a short rocks glass in the freezer or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.

2

Remove 2 Amarena cherries from the jar. Reserve one additional cherry for optional garnish. Measure out gin, Campari, sweet vermouth, and 1/4 oz Amarena cherry syrup.

Build & Stir

3

Muddle cherries

In a mixing glass, add the 2 Amarena cherries and the 1/4 oz Amarena syrup. Gently muddle just a few times to release some cherry flavor and syrup — avoid pulverizing into a paste; you want small pieces and dissolved syrup.

4

Add spirits

Add 1 oz gin, 1 oz Campari, and 1 oz sweet vermouth to the mixing glass with the muddled cherries. Add plenty of ice (enough to nearly fill the mixing glass).

5

Stir

Using a bar spoon, stir steadily for 20–30 seconds (about 30–40 rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted. Stirring with large ice ensures a silky texture and clarity.

Strain & Serve

6

Prep glass

Dump the ice water from the chilled rocks glass (or remove from freezer) and place one large ice cube or sphere in the glass.

7

Double strain

Double-strain the stirred cocktail into the prepared rocks glass using a julep or fine mesh strainer to catch cherry solids and small ice chips, leaving a smooth drink.

8

Garnish & finish

Express the orange peel over the cocktail by holding it skin-side down above the drink and giving it a sharp twist to release oils. Rub the peel around the rim if desired, then drop it into the glass. Add an Amarena cherry on a pick or dropped into the glass for an extra sweet bite.
