Smoothie Base

Method

Smoothie Base

  1. 1

    Prepare fruit

If using a fresh banana, peel and break into chunks. If using fresh pineapple instead of frozen, core and cut into roughly 1-inch chunks and plan to add ice to chill.

  2. 2

    Add to blender

Place the banana chunks, frozen pineapple chunks, and oat milk into a high-speed blender. Add the optional yogurt if you want a creamier texture.

  3. 3

    Sweeten and brighten

Add honey or maple syrup, fresh lime juice, and vanilla extract. Sprinkle the ground cinnamon if using for a warm note.

  4. 4

    Blend

Secure the lid and blend on high for 45–60 seconds, or until fully smooth and no large fruit pieces remain. If the mixture is too thick, add oat milk 1–2 tablespoons at a time until desired consistency is reached. If using fresh pineapple, add the ice cubes before blending and increase blend time as needed.

  5. 5

    Adjust

Taste and adjust sweetness or acidity: add a little more honey/maple for sweetness or a few drops more lime juice for brightness. If the smoothie is too thin, add a few more frozen pineapple chunks or a small handful of ice and re-blend.

Optional Add-ins & Garnish

  1. 6

If using chia seeds, stir them into the finished smoothie and let sit 2–3 minutes to hydrate, or blend briefly if you prefer them fully incorporated.

  2. 7

Pour the smoothie into a 16-oz glass. Garnish with a pineapple wedge and mint leaves. Serve immediately with a straw.
