Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Brew espresso

Brew 1 oz of strong espresso and set it hot aside. If you don't have an espresso machine, make 1 oz very strong coffee using an Aeropress or Moka pot.

2

Combine spirits and coffee

In a cocktail shaker (without ice), add 2 tbs Bushmills, 1 tbs Frangelico, 0.5 tsp coffee liqueur (optional) and 0.5 tsp simple syrup. Pour in the hot 1 oz espresso.

3

Temper briefly

Give the shaker a quick gentle swirl (20–30 seconds) to marry the hot coffee with the spirits and dissolve the syrup. This step warms the glass and helps integration.

4

Chill if desired

If you prefer the drink warm, pour now (skip next step). For a slightly cooled, silky cocktail, add a large ice cube to the shaker and shake vigorously 8–10 seconds to chill and slightly dilute, then double-strain into a warmed coupe or rocks glass.

Milkwash / Foam

5

Make the milkwash: In a small jar or frothing pitcher combine 2 tbs whole milk, 1 tsp heavy cream and 0.25 tsp honey (if using). Vigorous shaking for 20–30 seconds or use a handheld milk frother until you have a silky, slightly aerated foam. The mixture should be cool and slightly thickened but pourable.

6

Float the milkwash: Gently spoon or pour the milkwash over the back of a spoon held just above the drink to create a thin creamy layer on top of the cocktail (about 1/4 inch).

Garnish

7

Finish and serve: Sprinkle 1/2 tsp toasted chopped hazelnuts over the milkwash, then add a pinch of freshly grated nutmeg or a light dusting of cocoa powder. Serve immediately.
