Method

Cocktail

1

Prepare glass

Select an old-fashioned/rocks glass. If you prefer a slightly chilled glass, place it in the freezer for 5–10 minutes beforehand or fill it with ice water while you assemble the drink, then discard the water before pouring.

2

Add ingredients

Place 2–3 large ice cubes into the chilled rocks glass. Pour 2 oz blended Scotch whisky and 1 oz amaretto over the ice. If using bitters, add 1 dash.

3

Stir

Using a bar spoon, gently stir the mixture for about 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full spoon turns) to properly chill and slightly dilute the cocktail so flavors marry and it’s not overly boozy.

4

Garnish and serve

Express the oils of an orange or lemon twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and pinching it to release the oils, then rub the rim with the peel and drop it into the glass (or discard if you prefer no garnish). Serve immediately.
